Erbium Yag Laser Treatment at Innovative Aesthetics

Erbium YAG Laser Resurfacing

Erbium YAG laser skin resurfacing involves an intentional controlled skin injury with the dual aims of replacing damaged tissue with newly produced tissue and collagen remodeling. This process leads to improved skin texture and a more youthful appearance.

Types of Lasers

There are various types of lasers, but the more aggressive types are Carbon Dioxide and Erbium lasers. The wavelength of the Erbium Yag laser is absorbed more efficiently by water in tissue than the CO2 laser. This results in faster healing and recovery times with the Erbium.

CO2 Laser

The CO2 laser usually has a more dramatic improvement of the skin than the Erbium, but it also carries more risks. Both the CO2 and Erbium laser treatments have downtime. The Erbium YAG laser usually has less downtime with fewer side effects.

Benefits of Erbium Yag Laser

The degree of improvement in your skin with an Erbium Yag laser treatment depends on the original condition of your skin, the aggressiveness of the Erbium Yag Laser treatment, and how many treatments you receive. The Erbium Yag laser treatment reduces skin imperfections such as sun damage, mild to moderate wrinkles, scars, and uneven skin tone/texture.

If you have extensive sun damage and/or deep wrinkles, this treatment is probably not for you. Also, the Erbium Yag laser treatment cannot significantly improve skin laxity, otherwise known as “sagging skin.”

Before Treatment

Prior to the Erbium treatment, we may ask that you take a course of hydroquinone to suppress melanin. We may also ask you to discontinue some of your usual skincare products. Following your Erbium treatment, you may experience pain, swelling, redness, and peeling/flaking.

We will ask that you keep the treated area(s) moist with Aquaphor for a period of time after the Erbium treatment. We will also give you other post-treatment instructions, and tell you when you can resume your usual skincare regimen.

Treatment Areas

The Erbium treatment is safe on the neck, chest, hands, and arms, as well as the face.

How Many Treatments are Needed?

In some cases, a patient will need more than one treatment. There are also times when we recommend a combination of laser treatments to achieve the results you desire.

Interested in Erbium Yag Laser Treatment?

Our team at Innovative Aesthetics is fond of the Erbium Yag Laser because it provides a very versatile treatment. A patient can treat their whole face or just parts of it. For example, around the eyes or around the mouth. Treatments can be aggressive, or not. The aggressive treatment is described above, but it can also be used to perform a non-ablative treatment. This treatment is called a carbon laser facial, or “Hollywood Laser Peel.”

Is There Downtime?

There is usually no downtime with this procedure. It plumps, tightens pores, and smooths. It is a great treatment prior to an event including a wedding, class reunion, etc. If you have additional questions, we are here to help you determine if the treatment is right for you.
