How Juvederm Treatment Works

Before

Prior to treatment, avoid aspirin or products containing products. Products including Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Green Tea, Garlic, Ginko, Ginseng, and St. John’s Wort should be avoided 10 days prior to treatment. If you have an active skin inflammation or infection, the treatment cannot be given.

If prior to the treatment you have a cold sore outbreak, punctures from the needle can cause more. You should take medication to treat the outbreak prior to the Juvederm™ treatment.

After

Cold outdoor activities, sunbathing, and more should be avoided until any redness or swelling disappears. This usually occurs 1-2 days after. Aspirin, and products including aspirin, should still be avoided for 7 days after treatment to avoid bruising. Exercise and alcohol should also be avoided for 24 hours after treatment.

Side Effects

Most side effects related to Juvederm™ are mild to moderate, and the duration is short. The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, or discoloration. These side effects last 7 days or less. With all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.

What to Expect With Juvederm™ Treatments

The injectable gel adds volume temporarily to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face. It comes in two formulations, which allows the treatment to tailor to unique needs. Juvederm™ Ultra provides versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm™ Ultra Plus is used for volumizing, as well as correcting deeper folds and wrinkles.

Treatments usually take 30-60 minutes, and is performed with a topical and/or local anesthetic to minimize pain. Correction with Juvederm™ is temporary, so touch-ups and repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal correction. Depending on the areas injected, results last 4-12 months. It also depends on each individual.
